Wirex: proving you own your self-custody wallet

When sending to a custodial wallet Wirex asks for recipient wallet type, full name and exchange name. When sending to a non-custodial wallet you may need the recipient’s full name. Incoming deposits from outside Wirex may need sender details via a Home-screen banner flow. After a successful withdrawal check the address is whitelisted for later sends (extra compliance checks can still apply).

Never share your seed phrase or private key. Wirex only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.

When Wirex asks

Where: EU member states listed in Wirex help (plus Singapore): article applies to Singapore, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Malta, Luxembourg, Ireland, Cyprus, Hungary, Greece, Finland, Estonia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Threshold: Wirex’s Travel Rule article does not publish a numeric threshold in the body we checked. It says checks apply when sending/receiving under Travel Rule conditions and that whitelisted addresses skip repeat withdrawal checks.

Accepted verification methods

Address whitelist after first checkAcceptedWirex says once a withdrawal check is completed the address is whitelisted so subsequent attempts do not require the same additional checks (originator validation can still delay some transfers).[1]

Wirex doesn’t ask for a signature? If support follows up, a signed message from your wallet is stronger evidence of ownership than a checkbox or a screenshot. Check a signature free in your browser and keep a proof record. Nothing leaves your device.

Step by step

Send to your non-custodial wallet[1]

  1. Start a crypto withdrawal and choose a non-custodial destination (Wirex examples include Trezor, Trust, Exodus).
  2. Provide the recipient’s full name if prompted (for your own wallet, use your legal name).
  3. Submit. Missing or incorrect Travel Rule data can delay or cancel the transfer; support may contact you to correct errors.

Send to a custodial exchange wallet[1]

  1. Set recipient wallet type to custodial.
  2. Enter the recipient’s full name and the exchange name (Wirex examples include Binance, Gate.io, MEXC).
  3. If the custodial wallet is not listed, Wirex says to contact customer support.

Complete a pending deposit Travel Rule check[1]

  1. Open the notification banner on the Home screen.
  2. Select the pending transaction, tap Start, then Open the link.
  3. Enter the required sender information to release the deposit.

Common errors and fixes

Transfer delayed or canceled

Wirex says missing or mistaken Travel Rule information can delay or cancel the transaction. Correct the fields; support may reach out to double-check.[1]

Custodial exchange not in the list

Contact Wirex customer support, as their FAQ directs when the custodial wallet is not listed.[1]

Still delayed after whitelist

Wirex notes that even after wallet verification, some transfers can face additional compliance checks including originator validation.[1]
