Upbit: proving you own your self-custody wallet
Upbit makes you register your own wallet before large transfers. You connect a supported browser-extension wallet (MetaMask, Kaia, Phantom, Polkadot{.js} or Keplr), pass two-channel authentication, and sign a message from upbit.com. Registration takes about 3 minutes. After that, withdrawals to that wallet need no extra details. Hardware wallets linked through MetaMask can’t be registered. For transfers under KRW 1,000,000 to a wallet that can’t be registered, Upbit takes a screenshot-based address request through 1:1 support.
When Upbit asks
Where: South Korea (Upbit Korea). Upbit’s Korean-language help center covers its Travel Rule rules and cites Korea’s Specific Financial Information Act (특정금융정보법) for blocked unreported exchanges.
Threshold: Upbit says deposits and withdrawals worth KRW 1,000,000 or more (converted to won) only work with a personal wallet registered with Upbit. Below KRW 1,000,000, withdrawals only go to destinations Upbit can identify: a listed exchange, a registered personal wallet, or an address it has approved.
Accepted verification methods
| Method | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Personal wallet registration (message signing) | Accepted | Register the address under Personal Wallet Address Management: pick the wallet type, connect the extension, complete two-channel authentication within 3 minutes, then approve the signature request. Supported wallets are MetaMask (Upbit-supported EVM networks), Kaia (Kaia network), Phantom (Solana), Polkadot{.js} (AssetHub Polkadot) and Keplr (Cosmos Hub). The signing request must show the origin https://upbit.com.[1][2][3] |
| Choose “Personal wallet” on large withdrawals | Accepted | For withdrawals of KRW 1,000,000 or more, choose Personal wallet (개인 지갑). Upbit says registered personal wallets can be withdrawn to without entering extra information.[4][7] |
| Withdrawal address request (screenshot, under KRW 1,000,000) | Accepted | For withdrawals under KRW 1,000,000 to a personal wallet that can’t be registered, apply through 1:1 support (General → Withdrawal address registration). Upload a screen showing the wallet name, the full receiving address and the network together, taken on the same device. Edited images are rejected, and review can take a while.[5][6] |
| Satoshi test | Not listed | Not described in the Upbit help articles we checked. |
| Declaration only | Not listed | Upbit’s help articles describe registration with a signature, not a checkbox declaration, for personal wallets.[1][4] |

Step by step
Register a personal wallet on the PC website[1][12]
- Finish Upbit’s customer verification (KYC) and set up two-channel authentication first. Upbit needs both to register a personal wallet.
- Log in at upbit.com and go to My → My Page → Personal Wallet Address Management (개인지갑 주소 관리) → Manage.
- Click Register Address (주소 등록) and select your wallet type. The wallet’s browser extension must already be installed.
- Connect the extension. In MetaMask, make sure the account you want to register is the selected, connected account. Only the selected account’s address is registered.
- Check the network and type the wallet address into the Wallet Address field. Add a nickname of up to 10 characters if you like.
- Complete two-channel authentication within 3 minutes, or the registration is cancelled.
- Approve the signature request in your wallet. The address is only registered once you sign. If the MetaMask prompt doesn’t appear, click Retry.
- Confirm the address now shows in Personal Wallet Address Management with its network.
Before signing, check that the origin is https://upbit.com and that the message shows Upbit’s notice, your address and verification details. Cancel if you see a red warning or only a 0x… hash. To keep your own record, sign a message with the same address and check it in the KeyProof verifier. Open the verifier →
Register a MetaMask address in the mobile app[8]
- Install the MetaMask app first. The Upbit mobile app only supports MetaMask; register Kaia, Phantom, Polkadot or Keplr wallets on the PC website.
- In the Upbit app, open Deposits/Withdrawals (입출금), tap the gear icon at the top right, then Personal Wallet Address Management.
- Tap + at the top right and choose MetaMask. Connect the account you want to register, then return to the Upbit app.
- Enter a nickname, select the network, and read and accept the notice.
- Complete two-channel authentication, then approve the signature request in MetaMask.
Withdraw to your registered wallet[4][5][10]
- Start a withdrawal for the asset and pick the same network your registered address uses.
- KRW 1,000,000 or more: choose Personal wallet (개인 지갑) as the destination.
- Under KRW 1,000,000: choose Other destinations (그 외 입금처) and enter your registered address.
- Finish the withdrawal. If Upbit says no address is registered, check that the withdrawal network matches the network of your registered address.
Common errors and fixes
My hardware wallet (Ledger / Trezor through MetaMask) can’t be registered
Upbit says it doesn’t support registering a MetaMask address that is linked to a hardware wallet. For transfers under KRW 1,000,000, you can request approval for the address through 1:1 support with a screenshot. Upbit’s articles don’t describe a hardware-wallet route for larger transfers.[9][6]
“No registered address” when withdrawing
The asset’s network must match the network of the registered address. Check it under Personal Wallet Address Management.[10]
Deposit from my own wallet is stuck as pending
If you deposited from a supported personal wallet before registering it, register the address and Upbit says the deposit will be credited. Contact support if it stays pending.[11]
Registration was cancelled
Two-channel authentication must be finished within 3 minutes of the request. Start again and approve the signature in your wallet right away.[1]
Withdrawal says the destination must be confirmed
Under KRW 1,000,000, Upbit only allows confirmed destinations. Register the wallet, or apply for withdrawal-address registration through 1:1 support.[5][6]
