Revolut: proving you own your self-custody wallet

Revolut collects Travel Rule sender/receiver details and, for some self-hosted wallet deposits and withdrawals, asks you to verify ownership in-app. When adding a crypto address you must say whether it is your wallet or provide the other owner's name. Revolut partners with TRUST for VASP data sharing.

Never share your seed phrase or private key. Revolut only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.
Revolut's public Travel Rule article confirms ownership verification is sometimes required but does not publish screen-by-screen cryptographic steps. This guide does not invent a signing or Satoshi flow beyond what Revolut documents. Follow the in-app guidance.

When Revolut asks

Where: EU (Transfer of Funds Regulation / EUTFR). Revolut help articles describe Travel Rule collection for VASP-to-VASP transfers and ownership checks for some self-hosted wallet transfers.

Threshold: Revolut's Travel Rule help article says that for deposits from self-hosted wallets, ownership verification may be required "depending on the amount". It does not publish a single public figure on that page; follow the in-app prompt.

Accepted verification methods

MethodStatusDetails
Travel Rule details + wallet ownership attestationAcceptedProvide beneficiary details for withdrawals to exchanges. For self-hosted wallets, indicate "My wallet" or provide the other person's name and surname when adding an address. For deposits from exchanges with incomplete accompanying data, you may be prompted to add sender details while the deposit stays pending.[1][2]
In-app wallet ownership verificationAcceptedRevolut says that for self-hosted wallet deposits (depending on amount) and in certain withdrawal cases, it may require you to verify wallet ownership and will guide you through the process in the app. The public help article does not name the cryptographic method on that page.[1]

Step by step

Add a crypto address[2]

  1. In the Revolut app go to Crypto on the bottom menu.
  2. Tap Add wallet address, choose the token, then continue.
  3. If the address is yours, keep "My wallet". If it belongs to someone else, provide their name and surname (Travel Rule requirement).
  4. Complete the security check with the 6-digit code sent to your phone before the wallet is added.
  5. For EVM-compatible addresses, Revolut notes you may be able to send multiple supported ERC-20 tokens to the same address.

Self-hosted deposits and withdrawals[1]

  1. Deposits from self-hosted wallets: if Revolut requires ownership verification for the amount, follow the in-app guidance. The deposit stays pending during verification.
  2. Deposits from exchanges: if accompanying Travel Rule information is incomplete, add the requested sender details; the deposit stays pending until provided.
  3. Withdrawals to exchanges: provide the recipient's name. Revolut sends required Travel Rule data to the receiving VASP via TRUST when possible.
  4. Withdrawals to self-hosted wallets: in certain cases Revolut asks you to verify ownership before completing the transaction.
  5. If a withdrawal fails because the destination exchange is not Travel Rule capable, Revolut suggests using another exchange address or a self-hosted wallet address instead.

Common errors and fixes

Deposit stuck pending

Revolut says deposits remain pending until missing Travel Rule information is provided or (for self-hosted wallets) ownership verification finishes. Open the crypto flow in the app and complete any prompts.[1]

Withdrawal to an exchange failed

Revolut says withdrawals fail if the destination exchange does not adhere to Travel Rule requirements or if Revolut cannot share the Travel Rule data. Use another Travel Rule-capable exchange or a self-hosted wallet address.[1]

Rejected deposit from a non-compliant exchange

Revolut says deposits from exchanges that do not adhere to Travel Rule requirements are rejected, and suggests depositing from a self-hosted wallet address instead (ownership verification required).[1]
