OKX: proving you own your self-custody wallet

OKX verifies private (self-custody) wallet control with Digital Signature (recommended: OKX Wallet, WalletConnect, or a supported hardware wallet) or a Satoshi test (exact on-chain amount within the on-screen time limit). Signing moves no funds.

Never share your seed phrase or private key. OKX only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.
OKX products and verification options differ by entity and region. Dedicated Satoshi-test walkthrough URLs we found in search returned 404 on 2026-10-27, so Satoshi steps here stay limited to what OKX's still-live help articles state.

When OKX asks

Where: EEA (Travel Rule / TFR) and other regulated regions where OKX asks for private-wallet control checks. Product availability varies by jurisdiction.

Threshold: EEA: for deposits or withdrawals of €1,000 or more involving a private wallet, complete any wallet-control verification OKX shows in that transfer flow. Other regions follow the prompt in the app.

Accepted verification methods

MethodStatusDetails
Digital SignatureAcceptedConnect the wallet account that controls the exact address being verified and approve a verification message. No crypto is sent and there is no network fee. Options can include OKX Wallet, WalletConnect (EVM; WalletConnect FAQ also lists Bitcoin), or a supported hardware wallet, depending on network and device.[1][2][3]
Satoshi testAcceptedSend the exact asset and amount shown from the address being verified to the OKX verification address, within the time limit on screen. This is an on-chain transfer and incurs a network fee. OKX recommends Digital Signature instead when it is offered.[1][2][3]
Travel Rule transfer detailsAcceptedFor EEA deposits and withdrawals, OKX may ask who is sending or receiving (exchange name, counterparty name, country). Completing those fields is separate from proving control of a private wallet address.[2]

Step by step

Digital Signature (recommended)[1][3]

  1. When your deposit or withdrawal asks you to verify a private wallet address, select Digital Signature if it is offered.
  2. Choose a connection option shown on your screen (for example OKX Wallet, WalletConnect, or a supported hardware wallet). Available options vary by network, app or website, and device.
  3. Connect the wallet account that controls the exact address in the verification request. Connecting a different account or address fails verification.
  4. Approve the verification message in your wallet. Signing does not move funds and has no network fee.
  5. Return to OKX and finish any remaining Travel Rule steps.

Keep the address, the exact message and the signature. Paste them into the KeyProof verifier to check them and save a proof record. Open the verifier →

WalletConnect (EVM Digital Signature)[3]

  1. Select Digital Signature, then the WalletConnect option (or OKX Wallet if you prefer).
  2. Scan the QR code with your wallet app (for example MetaMask or Trust Wallet) and approve the connection.
  3. Sign the verification message in your wallet.
  4. After a successful signature, continue with any remaining Travel Rule information on OKX.

OKX's WalletConnect FAQ says WalletConnect signing currently supports Ethereum and other EVM-compatible networks, and Bitcoin (BTC). It is not currently supported for Solana, TRON and some other networks; for those, OKX documents importing into OKX Wallet or switching to Satoshi Test. Open the verifier →

Satoshi test[1][2][3]

  1. If Satoshi Test is offered (or you switch to it from Digital Signature), follow the on-screen Satoshi Test flow.
  2. Send the exact asset and amount shown from the address being verified to the verification address OKX provides.
  3. Complete the send within the time limit displayed. Add the network fee yourself so the exact amount arrives.
  4. Follow the remaining prompts in the OKX app or website so OKX can match the deposit.

EEA Travel Rule details on a deposit or withdrawal[2]

  1. For a deposit from an exchange: provide the sending exchange's name, the sender's name and the sender's country of residence when requested.
  2. For a deposit from a private wallet: if someone else sent it, provide their name and country. For €1,000 or more, complete any wallet-control verification shown.
  3. For a withdrawal to an exchange: select the receiving exchange and provide the recipient's name when asked.
  4. For a withdrawal to a private wallet: if sending to someone else, provide their name. For €1,000 or more, complete any wallet-control verification shown.

Common errors and fixes

Digital Signature fails / address does not match

Connect the wallet account that controls the exact address in the verification request. OKX says connecting a different account or address fails. If your software wallet is not listed, OKX recommends importing that existing wallet into OKX Wallet (self-custodial, separate from Exchange) and selecting the matching address—not creating a new wallet.[1]

WalletConnect will not connect or nothing happens after scanning

Open the wallet app to check for a pending request, refresh OKX for a new QR code, update the wallet app, disconnect old WalletConnect sessions, check the network, or try OKX Wallet instead. OKX notes WalletConnect is a third-party protocol.[3]

Cannot use WalletConnect for Solana, TRON or another unsupported network

OKX's WalletConnect FAQ says WalletConnect signing is not currently supported for those networks. Import the wallet into OKX Wallet (which OKX lists for EVM, BTC, Solana, TRON, Sui, Aptos and Cosmos) or switch verification method to Satoshi Test.[3]

Asked to pay to "verify" or "unlock" a wallet

OKX says neither OKX nor WalletConnect charges for wallet verification, and signing has no gas fee. Treat payment requests as suspicious and contact OKX Support through the official app or website.[3]

Cannot skip wallet verification

OKX says you can use Digital Signature instead of Satoshi Test when Digital Signature is offered, but you cannot skip wallet verification altogether if the transfer requires it.[2]

FAQ

Does OKX Digital Signature cost gas?

No. OKX says connecting your wallet and signing a verification message does not move funds and has no network transaction fee.

What is the EEA threshold for private-wallet checks on OKX?

OKX's EEA Travel Rule FAQ says that for deposits or withdrawals of €1,000 or more involving a private wallet, you should complete any wallet-control verification requested in that flow.

Can I use Satoshi Test instead of signing on OKX?

Yes, when Satoshi Test is offered. OKX recommends Digital Signature when available because it needs no on-chain transfer. The WalletConnect FAQ also documents switching to Satoshi Test if Digital Signature fails.
