NiceHash: proving you own your self-custody wallet
When adding a withdrawal address you choose Travel Address (TRP), another VASP without a Travel Address, or a self-custodial wallet. Self-custody wallets are verified with Wallet Signature Proof (sign a message) or Visual Proof. Deposits missing Travel Rule data are held until you supply details. NiceHash recommends signature proof when possible.
When NiceHash asks
Where: Switzerland (NiceHash AG). Swiss AML applies the Travel Rule to all transactions regardless of amount.
Threshold: NiceHash states Swiss AML applies the Travel Rule to all transactions, with no amount threshold. Self-custodial withdrawals are withheld until wallet verification completes.
Accepted verification methods
| Method | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet Signature Proof | Accepted | Recommended path for self-custodial wallets: copy NiceHash’s message, sign it in your wallet’s sign/verify tool for the exact address, paste the signature, then confirm with 2FA and email when asked.[1][2][3] |
| Visual Proof | Accepted | Alternative to signing when verifying a self-custodial wallet. NiceHash’s Travel Rule materials describe visual proof alongside signature proof; expect manual review and longer processing than signing.[1][3] |
| Travel Address / VASP details | Accepted | If the receiving VASP gave you a Travel Address (TRP), enter it plus the beneficiary’s full name. If not, pick the destination VASP from the list (or contact support if missing) and supply required names.[1] |
| Satoshi test | Not listed | Not described in the NiceHash Travel Rule blog or signature-proof help materials we checked.[1][2] |

Step by step
Add a self-custodial withdrawal wallet[1][2][3]
- When adding or changing a withdrawal address, choose that you are using a self-custodial wallet.
- Prefer Wallet Signature Proof. Confirm the address, copy the message to be signed, open your wallet’s Sign/Verify Message tool, paste address + message, and sign.
- Paste the signature into NiceHash, add the proof, wait for verification, confirm the data and click Verify.
- Enter 2FA and the email confirmation code when prompted.
- NiceHash says self-custodial transactions are withheld until verification completes. Adding self-hosted wallets is not supported on mobile devices per the self-custodial help article.
Keep the address, message and signature. You can re-check a signature in the KeyProof verifier without sharing keys. Open the verifier →
Resolve a withheld deposit[1]
- Open the withheld transaction notification (push or email).
- If it came from a VASP, provide the sending institution details NiceHash asks for.
- If it came from a self-custodial wallet, complete Wallet Signature Proof or Visual Proof.
Common errors and fixes
Withdrawal stuck / withheld
Finish wallet verification (signature or visual proof) or supply missing VASP Travel Rule fields. Incomplete data keeps the transfer held.[1]
Cannot add self-hosted wallet on mobile
NiceHash’s self-custodial verification article states adding self-hosted wallets is not supported on mobile devices — complete verification on desktop/web.[3]
Destination VASP missing from the list
NiceHash says to contact support if the receiving VASP is not listed when you have no Travel Address.[1]
