KuCoin: proving you own your self-custody wallet
KuCoin Australia collects recipient legal name, destination provider, wallet type and ownership information on applicable withdrawals, and may collect payer / tracing details on deposits from self-hosted wallets. Public AU materials emphasise accurate declarations — they do not publish Satoshi-test or signature UI steps.

Step by step
Withdrawals from KuCoin Australia[1]
- Start a withdrawal and enter the destination wallet address and network carefully.
- Complete every recipient field KuCoin shows: legal name, destination provider or self-hosted ownership, wallet type and any tracing fields (memo/tag).
- Use the recipient's registered legal name for exchange accounts — not a nickname or social handle. For your own account elsewhere, use your own legal name as registered there.
- If the receiving exchange is not listed, do not pick the wrong provider; choose Other if accurate or contact official support.
- Submit only through the official KuCoin website or app. KuCoin Australia states a legitimate process never asks for your password, private key or recovery phrase.
Deposits from a self-hosted wallet[1]
- Send to your KuCoin deposit address on the correct network.
- If prompted before the deposit is released, provide payer identification, originating wallet address or other tracing information, and wallet type as requested.
- KuCoin Australia notes separate reporting for certain unverified self-hosted wallet transfers is scheduled to begin 31 March 2029, which does not remove information-collection duties that already apply.
Common errors and fixes
Transfer delayed or rejected
Common causes KuCoin Australia lists: recipient name mismatch, wrong destination or wallet-type selection, missing Travel Rule fields, wrong network/asset, or missing memo/tag. Correct the details and retry; compliance checks may still delay processing under KuCoin AU Terms.[1]
Someone asks for my seed phrase to "release" a transfer
Treat it as a scam. KuCoin Australia says never disclose password, private key or recovery phrase, and to use only official KuCoin channels.[1]
FAQ
Does KuCoin Australia ban self-custody?
No. The AU Travel Rule article states Australia's Travel Rule does not prohibit self-custody; the platform still collects payer/payee and tracing information for applicable transfers.
Is Travel Rule data written on-chain?
KuCoin Australia says legal names and other Travel Rule identity details are not ordinarily written into the public blockchain transaction; they are transmitted separately when another regulated provider is involved.
Do other KuCoin entities use the same steps?
Not necessarily. This guide is based on KuCoin Australia's published Travel Rule explainer. Use the help center for your local KuCoin entity (for example KuCoin TR has its own Travel Rule deposit/withdraw articles).
