GMO Coin: proving you own your self-custody wallet

GMO Coin allows outbound crypto to (1) domestic VASPs on Sygna Hub, (2) VASPs not located in notified countries/regions (including unknown location), and (3) private wallets such as MetaMask. It may still refuse a send at its discretion. Notified-jurisdiction VASPs that are not on the allowed domestic Sygna list — including examples like bitFlyer, Coincheck, Binance Japan, Coinbase, Kraken, MEXC, OKX, Upbit — cannot be destinations. Inbound transfers from other VASPs are checked against Travel Rule notifications before credit.

Never share your seed phrase or private key. GMO Coin only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.
Based on GMO Coin’s official Travel Rule page. Allowed/blocked VASP lists are examples and can change — check the live page before a send. In-app ownership cryptography is not documented there.

When GMO Coin asks

Where: Japan (GMO Coin). Official Travel Rule corporate page lists allowed and disallowed destinations.

Threshold: GMO Coin’s Travel Rule page does not publish a numeric ownership-proof threshold. It defines which destination classes are allowed for outbound crypto and notes inbound deposits undergo notification matching that can delay or block reflection.

Accepted verification methods

MethodStatusDetails
Allowed-destination classes (Sygna / non-notified VASP / private wallet)AcceptedOutbound destinations permitted: Sygna Hub domestic VASPs; VASPs outside notified countries/regions (including unknown location); private wallets (MetaMask etc.). GMO Coin may still decline a transfer.[1]
Inbound notification matchingAcceptedOn deposit, GMO Coin confirms notification items from the sending VASP against the transfer. Reflection can take time or fail if checks do not pass — enter notification info carefully at the sending venue.[1]

GMO Coin doesn’t ask for a signature? If support follows up, a signed message from your wallet is stronger evidence of ownership than a checkbox or a screenshot. Check a signature free in your browser and keep a proof record. Nothing leaves your device.

Step by step

Withdraw to a private wallet[1]

  1. Confirm the destination is a private wallet (GMO Coin lists MetaMask etc. as allowed).
  2. Register and send using GMO Coin’s normal withdrawal flow for that asset.
  3. Expect GMO Coin may still refuse a transfer at its discretion even when the destination class is allowed.

Withdraw to another Japanese exchange[1]

  1. Check whether the destination appears on GMO Coin’s example list of sendable Japanese VASPs (Sygna Hub users).
  2. Do not attempt sends to example blocked Japanese VASPs such as bitFlyer or Coincheck listed on that page — those are not supported destinations.
  3. If the brand operates multiple entities, confirm you are targeting the Sygna-connected Japanese entity GMO Coin supports.

Deposit into GMO Coin from another VASP[1]

  1. At the sending exchange, enter Travel Rule notification fields carefully.
  2. Allow time for GMO Coin to match notification items to the deposit.
  3. If reflection fails or stalls, fix mismatched notification data at the source rather than resending blindly.

Common errors and fixes

Cannot withdraw to Coinbase / Kraken / OKX / MEXC / Upbit / bitFlyer / Coincheck

GMO Coin’s Travel Rule page lists those (and similar notified-jurisdiction or non-Sygna domestic names) as examples of destinations you cannot send to. Use an allowed Sygna domestic VASP, a non-notified VASP, or a private wallet instead.[1]

Deposit not reflecting

GMO Coin reviews notification items vs transfer contents; mismatches can delay or prevent credit. Correct data on the sending VASP.[1]
