CoinJar: proving you own your self-custody wallet

CoinJar Europe lets you verify a self-hosted address by digital signature (preferred), Satoshi test, or manual video upload. Signing is instant and free; Satoshi tests cost a network fee; manual upload takes 1–3 business days. Never share seed phrases.

Never share your seed phrase or private key. CoinJar only needs a signature, a small test deposit or the details it asks for in its own app. Last checked 2026-10-27. Not legal advice.
Steps above are for CoinJar Europe / Ireland TFR flows. CoinJar Australia publishes Travel Rule explainers but the detailed signature / Satoshi / video methods cited here are from the EU help articles. Use the help center for your CoinJar entity.

When CoinJar asks

Where: EU / EEA CoinJar entities under the Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR). CoinJar Australia publishes Travel Rule explainers separately; the step-by-step self-hosted verification methods below are from CoinJar Europe / Ireland help articles.

Threshold: CoinJar Europe: verification required for transfers over €1,000 to or from a self-hosted wallet. Each address is verified once.

Accepted verification methods

MethodStatusDetails
Digital signatureAcceptedCoinJar generates a unique message with your account, address and a one-time nonce. You sign it in your wallet and paste the signature back. Supported networks listed include Bitcoin, Ethereum and several EVM/L2s, Solana, Cardano, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Ethereum Classic. Ledger Live alone cannot sign — pair Ledger with MetaMask (EVM) or Electrum (Bitcoin).[1][2]
Satoshi testAcceptedSend the exact amount on the exact network from the address you are verifying to the CoinJar deposit address shown. Typical confirmation in a few minutes. Network fees apply on top.[1]
Manual video uploadAcceptedRecord a short video showing your wallet app with the full, readable address. Compliance reviews in 1–3 business days. Never include private keys or seed phrases.[1]
Declaration onlyNot listedCoinJar Europe's self-hosted verification article documents signature, Satoshi test and manual upload — not a declaration-only path.[1]
Screenshot aloneNot listedManual verification uses a video upload, not a still screenshot, per the Europe help article.[1]
Signing a message for CoinJar? Check the signature before you submit it. Verify it free in your browser and save a proof record. Your keys and seed phrase never leave your wallet.

Step by step

Digital signature (recommended)[2]

  1. Sign in → More → Address Book → Add Address.
  2. Enter the cryptocurrency address and required fields. Select Digital Signature.
  3. Copy CoinJar's unique message exactly (no edits to spaces or line breaks).
  4. Sign with a supported wallet path: Etherscan Verified Signature or MetaMask for Ethereum/EVM; Solscan for Solana; Electrum+Ledger for Bitcoin; Trezor Suite Sign & Verify; Trust Wallet via WalletConnect on a signing page.
  5. Paste the signature hash into CoinJar's Paste Signed Output field and select Verify Wallet.
  6. If valid, the address is verified immediately and ready for transfers.

Keep the address, message and signature. You can re-check them in the KeyProof verifier. Open the verifier →

Satoshi test[1]

  1. In Address Book, add the address and choose Satoshi Test.
  2. Note the unique CoinJar deposit address and exact amount.
  3. From the exact self-hosted address, send that exact amount on the correct network.
  4. Wait for on-chain confirmation. CoinJar marks the wallet verified when it detects the test.

Manual video upload[1]

  1. Choose Manual Upload when adding the address.
  2. Record a short video of the wallet app showing the full address clearly (not cropped or blurred).
  3. Attach the video in the form and submit.
  4. Wait for email / in-app notification (1–3 business days). Respond if compliance asks for more detail.

Common errors and fixes

Signature verification failed

Paste the full signature with no extra spaces; sign the exact CoinJar message; sign with the same address you entered. Hardware wallets may show only a hash on-device — that can be normal.[2]

Satoshi test amount or network mismatch

Send the exact amount on the exact network CoinJar specified. Wrong-network funds may be unrecoverable.[1]

Manual upload delayed

Blurry or cropped videos delay approval. Show the specific address you submitted, never seed phrases.[1]

FAQ

Do I re-verify the same address later?

No. CoinJar Europe says each verified address stays verified; verify again only for a different address.

Can I verify a wallet on another exchange?

No. Self-hosted verification is for wallets you control directly (software or hardware).

Does Ledger Live sign messages alone?

CoinJar says Ledger Live does not support message signing; pair Ledger with MetaMask (EVM) or Electrum (Bitcoin).
