Bithumb: proving you own your self-custody wallet
Bithumb lets you register your own personal wallet in its address book by signing with the wallet to prove you own it. Its current list of supported personal wallets is MetaMask, Klip, Trust Wallet, imToken and OKX Wallet (imToken and OKX Wallet only on PC). Once a listed wallet is registered, you can withdraw to it without extra registration. For other wallets, including Ledger, Bithumb’s articles describe a screenshot-based address review for withdrawals under KRW 1,000,000 that can take up to 7 business days. They don’t describe a route for larger amounts.
When Bithumb asks
Where: South Korea (Bithumb). Bithumb’s Korean-language help center covers its Travel Rule, address-book and withdrawal-address rules.
Threshold: Bithumb says withdrawals of KRW 1,000,000 or more to a personal wallet need the address registered in its address book first, and only go to your own wallet. Since April 1, 2025, withdrawals under KRW 1,000,000 also only go to addresses Bithumb has reviewed, unless the destination is a Travel Rule–linked exchange. The amount is the won value at Bithumb’s price when you request the withdrawal, excluding the fee.
Accepted verification methods
| Method | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Personal wallet registration (ownership signature) | Accepted | Register the address in the address book (주소록) and prove it’s yours with a signature from the wallet. Supported personal wallets: MetaMask, Klip, Trust Wallet, imToken (PC only) and OKX Wallet (PC only). Bithumb says only your own wallet addresses can be registered.[1][2][8] |
| Address review for other wallets (screenshot, under KRW 1,000,000) | Accepted | For wallets not on Bithumb’s list, register the address as “Other exchanges” (그 외 거래소) and upload a screenshot showing the wallet’s name or logo and the receiving address. Ledger users can instead photograph the Ledger program screen, the back of the device, or the program and device together. Review can take up to 7 business days, and edited images are rejected. This route covers withdrawals under KRW 1,000,000.[4] |
| Recipient details on large withdrawals | Accepted | For withdrawals of KRW 1,000,000 or more to an address not yet in the address book, Bithumb asks you to choose the receiving exchange or personal wallet, individual or corporate, and enter the recipient’s name.[3][5] |
| Satoshi test | Not listed | Not described in the Bithumb help articles we checked. |
| Declaration only | Not listed | Bithumb’s articles describe a signature for listed personal wallets and a screenshot review for others, not a checkbox declaration.[1][4] |

Step by step
Register a listed personal wallet in the address book[1][2][8]
- Check that your wallet is on Bithumb’s list: MetaMask, Klip, Trust Wallet, imToken or OKX Wallet. imToken and OKX Wallet can only be connected on PC.
- Open the address book. Mobile: Deposits/Withdrawals (입출금) → Address book (주소록) → Register address (주소 등록) → Register additional info (추가정보 등록). PC: Deposits/Withdrawals (입출금) → Address book (주소록) → Register address (주소 등록).
- Select the asset and enter your wallet address on the network Bithumb supports for it.
- Choose your personal wallet from the list and complete Bithumb’s identity check (phone verification).
- Connect the wallet and approve the signature request. Bithumb’s 2022 notice says MetaMask can also be connected through the PC browser extension or by scanning a QR code with MetaMask.
- Confirm the address now appears in your address book.
Bithumb’s current articles say a signature proves you own the wallet but don’t print the message text. Read the signing prompt before approving, and cancel if it asks for a transaction or token approval instead of a message. To keep your own record, sign a message with the same address and check it in the KeyProof verifier. Open the verifier →
Register another wallet for withdrawals under KRW 1,000,000[4]
- Mobile: Deposits/Withdrawals (입출금) → Address book (주소록) → Register address (주소 등록) → choose “Other exchanges” (그 외 거래소). PC: Wallet management (지갑관리) → Address book (주소록) → Register address (주소 등록) → “Other exchanges” (그 외 거래소).
- Select the asset, the network and enter the receiving address.
- Upload a screenshot that clearly shows the wallet’s name or logo, and one showing the receiving address. If both fit on one screen, one file is enough.
- Ledger (cold wallet) users who can’t show a logo screen can upload one of: the Ledger program screen showing the wallet name, the back of the device showing its name, or the connected program and the physical device together.
- Wait for the review. It can take up to 7 business days, and Bithumb tells you by KakaoTalk notification or text if it’s rejected.
Bithumb says addresses registered this way may need to be registered again for withdrawals of KRW 1,000,000 or more. Never let a private key or seed phrase appear in any screenshot you upload. Open the verifier →
Withdraw to your registered wallet[3][5]
- Go to Deposits/Withdrawals (입출금), select the asset and open Withdraw.
- Enter or pick the registered address and the amount, using the same network as the registered address.
- If Bithumb asks, choose personal wallet, individual, and enter the recipient’s name. For a Korean exchange, the recipient name must be in Korean.
- Confirm with phone verification (KakaoTalk or SMS).
Common errors and fixes
Withdrawal over KRW 1,000,000 to my own wallet is blocked
Bithumb only allows withdrawals of KRW 1,000,000 or more to personal wallets registered in the address book, and only to your own wallet. Register a listed wallet (MetaMask, Klip, Trust Wallet, imToken, OKX Wallet) with a signature first.[3][2]
My hardware wallet (Ledger) isn’t on the list
Bithumb’s articles describe a screenshot review for Ledger addresses under KRW 1,000,000 (via “Other exchanges”). They don’t describe a Ledger route for KRW 1,000,000 or more.[4][2]
Withdrawal under KRW 1,000,000 was refused
Since April 1, 2025, Bithumb only sends amounts under KRW 1,000,000 to reviewed addresses (or Travel Rule–linked exchanges). Register the address under “Other exchanges” with the screenshots it asks for.[4]
Address review was rejected
Bithumb rejects edited or altered images. Upload original screenshots showing the wallet name or logo and the receiving address, on a network Bithumb supports for that asset.[4]
Withdrawal was cancelled
Bithumb says withdrawals can be cancelled if the exchange, address or recipient name you entered don’t match. Check the details and try again.[7]
Repeated small withdrawals got restricted
Bithumb says repeatedly withdrawing under KRW 1,000,000 can be treated as abnormal and restricted. All withdrawals also pass a fraud check that can hold them for up to 72 hours.[3]
